Tips for MAking The PErfect Bruschetta Steak Sandwich
- Use homemade Sourdough Focaccia Bread or a good fresh loaf from a bakery. The quality and freshness of the bread make all the difference in the final outcome of your sandwich.
- Always marinate the steak for a minimum of two hours to get good, deep flavor into the meat. If you have the time, letting it marinate over night is even better.
- When putting together the sandwiches, be sure to assemble them right before serving to keep the bread from going soggy.
Bruschetta Steak Sandwich Ingredients
Sourdough Focaccia Bread– This can be homemade or storebought. If you want to make it at home, find my perfect sourdough focaccia recipe here https://cmbarndominium.com/to-die-for-sourdough-focaccia-bread-bruschetta/
Steak– As mentioned above, you can use any type or red meat you like, and any cut of steak you wat. Beef, moose, venison and elk are all delicious.
Fresh Mozarella– Be sure to get the fresh, soft mozarella not the block of pizza mozarella.
Tomato Bruschetta- This is a simple mixture of fresh tomatoes, red onion, basil, garlic and balsamic vinegar.
Pesto– You can use homemade or storebought pesto for this sandwich. Whichever you prefer.
Arugula– Fresh greens like arugula add a great freshness to any steak sandwich.
Olive Oil– This is the base of the steak marinade. Any neutra oil will work.
Balsamic Vinegar– Use a good quality, rich balsamic vinegar, to add delicious flavor to the steak.
Maple Syrup– I love the touch of sweetness this brings to the steak marinade.
Dijon Mustard– Dijon adds a slight tang to the steak marinade to balance the sweetness.

The Steps
1. Start by adding all of the steak ingredients to a mixing bowl, minus the steak. Whisk together until everything is combined.
2. Place the steaks in a casserole dish or big ziploc bag then pour the steak marinade over the steaks. Cover and place in the refrigerator for minimum 2 hours or up to over night.
3. When you are ready to make the sandwiches, remove the steak from the fridge and heat a cast iron skillet over high heat. Add a couple tbsps of butter or oil to the pan, then sear the steaks for 3-4 minutes per side, depending on desires doneness.
4. Once the steaks have reached 120F (for rare) or 130F (for medium rare), remove them from the heat and allow to rest for 5-7 minutes.
5. While the steaks are resting, slice the focaccia bread into sandwich size pieces, then slice each piece in half horizontally. Place the pieces open side up on a baking sheet and top with mozarella. Broil the bread and cheese for just a couple minutes until melted and lightly crisp.
6. Finally, thiny slice all the steak. Spread a tbsp of pesto on one side of each sandwich, top with a generous pile of the steak, a big spoonful of the bruschetta mixture and some arugula to top it off. Serve immediatley and enjoy!
