I don’t personally love eating apricots, HOWEVER they make some of the most delicious jams and sauces. They have the perfect lightly sweet but also tart flavor which is perfect for a BBQ sauce! This Apricot BBQ Sauce is such a great recipe for the Summer time as it’s lighter than regular BBQ sauce and perfect to enjoy with grilled chicken, pork or fish.

Making this sauce is incredibly simple. You add all of the fresh ingredients to a pot. bring them to a boil and then simmer until it begins to thicken. I like to then blend mine to get it nice and silky smooth. For ease, I like to just make a batch of this and store the jars in the freeze, or if you plan to use it regularly you can keep it all in the fridge.

If you aren’t sold on the idea of BBQ sauce without tomatoes, I promise you need to trust me and just try it!! It has the perfect amount of sweetness to balance out the tang and the color is absolutely beautiful. Use it for grilled chicken, ribs, sandwiches or even with seafood.

Tips for Making Perfect Apricot BBQ Sauce

  1. Ideally you want to use apricot that are on the more ripe/ over ripe side. This will give a bit more sweetness and they will break down beautifully.

  3. Be sure to taste the sauce before you add it to the jars. You can any additional salt or spices if need be to get it to your liking!

Apricot BBQ Sauce Ingredients

Apricots– Fresh, ripe apricots are what you want.

Apple Cider Vinegar– This gives that classic tanginess and adds delicious flavor.

Onion- Just a white or yellow onion is fine.

Garlic– Fresh is always better than pre minced.

Honey– This keeps the sauce refined sugar free and the honey compliments the apricots so well.

Smoked Paprika– I love this additional for an extra little flavor enhancement.

Dijon Mustard- You can sub with mustard powder if you prefer.
