With all of the fresh vegetables and herbs this time of year, I love finding ways to incorporate them into our meals. BLT’s are a classic Summer sandwich, and when you add that combo to a burger along with a homemade ranch, it is a combo that no-one can resist!

For these BLT Ranch Burgers you start by mixing up a simple burger patty. I kept the spices simple to let the fresh toppings shine. Then, form that into large patties and grill them unit cooked and juicy. Top them with a sharp cheddar cheese, then pile them onto homemade brioche buns with crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato and a herby fresh made ranch.

What I love about these burgers is they use simple, fresh ingredients to create something so perfect just as it is. You don’t need a ton of different ingredients, and they can be made using any ground red meat you have. Venison, moose, elk or beef would all be delicious.

Tips for Making Perfect BLT Ranch Burgers

  1. When making burgers, I always recommend making sure your ground meat has a bit of fat added to it. Anywhere 10-15% fat is ideal and will help give you a tender and juicy burger full of flavor.
  2. Using a meat thermometer is the best way to ensure that your burgers are cooked through but stay juicy. Especially if you are using wild game, the meat can dry out quick if it is over cooked. You should be aiming for an internal temperature of about 160F.
  3. Quality of ingredients makes a big different for these burgers!! Homemade buns, fresh vegetables, fresh herbs and quality bacon will ultimately give you the most flavor with a simple burger like this.

BLT Ranch Burger Ingredients

Ground Venison– As mentioned above you can use any ground red meat you have! Wild game, or beef.

Bacon– We love our homemade bacon, but any thick cut bacon you like will work.

Tomatoes– A nice large tomato will be best. Something like beef steak or an heirloom tomato.

Lettuce– Iceberg or romaine works.

Plain Greek Yogurt- This is the base of the ranch to keep it lighter and healthier.

Sour Cream– I like a touch of sour cream with the yogurt for a bit of extra creaminess.

Fresh Herbs– Dill and chives make the perfect combo for a fresh delicious ranch.

Brioche Buns– Use my sourdough brioche bun recipe or if you don’t have sourdough you can buy buns.

Bread Crumbs– Help hold the patties together and keep them tender.

Egg– You want one egg to help bind the meat.

Cheddar Cheese– I love a sharp cheddar for these but any cheddar will work.

Onion Powder– This is essential for the homemade ranch.

Garlic– Fresh is always best.

Lemon Juice– Adds the perfectly acidity to the ranch.
