This is a secial recipe because this was my dads recipe he always made for Teriyaki flank steak. It was my favorite as a kid and still is one of my favorites to this day! It only uses a handful of ingredients, one of which is Beer……yes you heard that right BEER. After years of eating this flank steak, I knew there was something different about it that made it so delicious but had absolutely no idea it was the beer.

If you aren’t a fan of adding alcohol to your marinades you can absolutely omit the beer. Almost any other liquid will work such as water or even orange juice. However, I highly recommend using beer for the unique subtle flavor it adds!

Make this Teriyaki Flank Steak to enjoy served over rice, with salad or my personal favorite over a mango rice noodle salad. This recipe will be a winner in everyones eyes, I promise!!!

Tips For PErfect Teriyaki MArinated Flank Steak

  1. Use a fresh, good quality piece of flank steak. As always, when you are cooking meat, quality is always important to get the best result.
  2. Allow the meat to sit in the marinade overnight or for a minimum of 8 hours if possible. This will ensure you get the most flavor throughout the meat.
  3. Remove the meat from the fridge about 30 minutes prior to grilling to allow it to come to room temperature. If you put a cold piece of meat straight onto the grill it will be harder to get the perfect cook temperature as it will cook unevenly.
  4. Always slice flank steak away from the grain to get the most tender bite.

Teriyaki Flank Steak MArinade Ingredients

Soy Sauce– Any soy sauce you have will work. If you are gluten free, opt for gluten free soy sauce.

Beer– This may sound strange but I proise it is the secret ingredient that makes this recipe so good. Use a gluten free beer if you need.

Garlic– Fresh cloves of garlic as always will give you the best flavor.

Ginger-Be sure to use fresh grated ginger not ground ginger you buy in the spice aisle. I like to peel my ginger, then store it in the freezer for easy grating.

Sesame Oil- There is just a touch of this in the marinade but gives it that essential hint of sesame.

Brown Sugar– Teriyaki always needs some sweetness and for this recipe that is brown sugar.

Black Pepper– Fresh ground black pepper gives this recipe the perfect little kick.

The Steps

1.Start by mixing together all of the ingredients in a large measuring cup (excluding the flank steak). Whisk until well mixed.

2. Place the flank steak in a large ziploc bag or a casserole dish then pour the marinade over the meat. Be sure to flip the meat a couple times and make sure it is fully covered in the marinade. Seal the bag or cover the dish with plastic wrap and allow to marinade in the fridge for minimum 8 hours or overnight.

3. About 30 minutes before you are ready to grill, remove the meat from the fridge and let it come to room temperature.

5. Preheat your grill so its nice and hot, minimum 400F. Place the steak on the gril and cook for 5-10 minutes per side or until internal temp reaches 125-130F. I cook mine on our smoker at 400F and then do a quick reverse sear after I take it off to get it crisp on the outside.

6. Allow the flank steak to rest at room temerature for about 7 minutes before slicing thing against the grain. Enjoy served with rice, potatoes, or over your favorite salad!

*You CAN marinade this flank steak for less than 8 hours if thats all the time you have, BUT you will get more and more flavor the longer it marinades.
