Easy & Delicious Venison Dumpling Smash Tacos
We are BIG fans of smash tacos around here and these Venison Dumpling Smash Tacos are a fun and different flavor to try! They give you all the classic dumpling flavours like garlic, ginger, soy and fresh green onion. Topped with spicy mayo and a soy dipping sauce they are a 10/10.

If you haven’t tried making smash tacos before you need to! They are such a quick and fun way to have dinner on the table fast with tons of flavor options. This dumpling variation uses tons of fresh garlic, ginger, and green onions to give you all the fresh flavours of a dumpling but in a taco.
To make these Venison Dumpling Smash Tacos, you start by mixing ground venison or other wild game of your choice with garlic, ginger, green onions, sesame oil and chili paste. You then take that mixture and press it onto small tortillas nice and flat. Sear the tortillas meat side down for just a couple minutes then top with a spicy mayo, carrots, cucumber, and cilantro. Finish these tacos off by dipping them in a flavourful soy and ginger sauce and enjoy as many as you’d like!
I love these smash tacos because they are an easy meal packed with protein and flavor that the whole family will love. You can prep the meat mixture and sauces in advance, so it only takes 10 minutes to cook later and dinner is served. Adjust the toppings to your liking, and if you are gluten free these tacos are just as delicious enjoyed as a rice bowl.

Tips for Making Perfect Venison Dumpling Smash Tacos
- I always recommend using ground venison that has 10-15% fat added to it. This is always my recommendation as it keeps the meat juicy and tender.
- When adding the meat to the tortillas, be sure to press it nice and thin, even across the tortilla. This will allow it to cook evenly and in just a couple minutes!
- For storing left overs, I recommend storing all the sauces and toppings separate from the tacos. This will prevent the tacos from going soggy and keep everything nice and fresh.
Venison Dumpling Smash Taco Ingredients
Tortillas– You want flour tortillas. Homemade or store bought work. Use mini ones.
Ground Venison- This can be ground deer, elk, moose, bear or even beef.
Green Onion– These add tons of fresh flavor.
Garlic– Always use fresh over pre minced if you can.
Ginger– I store mine in the freezer so it is easy to grate into recipes.
Soy Sauce– If you are gluten free, use tamari.
Sesame Oil– Measure carefully. It is very strong.
Gochujang– This is a chili paste you will find in the Asian aisle of your grocery store.
Rice Vinegar– Adds a perfect tang to the dipping sauce.
Honey– Can substitute with maple syrup if you prefer.
Spicy Mayo– This is optional but highly recommend!
Fresh Vegetables– Carrots, cucumber, shredded cabbage and cilantro.

The Steps
- Start by adding the ground venison, 1/3 cup green onions, 3 cloves minced garlic, 2 tsp sesame oil, minced ginger, gochujang and salt to a large bowl.
- Stir the meat mixture to get everything evenly combined. Set aside.
- Next, stir together all of the dipping sauce ingredients in a small bowl or jar until combined.
- Then, heat a large skillet over medium high heat with a couple tbsp of olive oil.
- Take one tortilla and spoon a ball of the meat mixture onto the middle. Press the meat down nice and thin, almost to the edges of the tortilla. Repeat this until you have used all of the meat.
- Place the tortillas meat side down onto the preheated pan, and cook for about 2 minutes, then flip and cook for another minute before removing from the heat.
- To serve, spread a little bit of spicy mayo on each taco, topped with the sliced cucumber, carrots, cabbage and fresh cilantro.
- Plate the tacos with a little side of the dipping sauce and enjoy!

Is there a recipe/ingredients for the spicy mayo?
You can buy sriracha mayo from the store or I just mix some kepi mayo with a little dollop of sriracha or gochujang. That way you can make it as spicy as you like!
