Easy and Flavorful Sourdough Pizza Focaccia Bread
This Sourdough Pizza Focaccia blends two heavenly foods to make one, even more perfect food!

Whether you are just beginning your sourdough journey or have been making it for years, this Sourdough Pizza Focaccia is a fun and delicious way to spice up your bread baking. I baked artisan style sourdough for years before dipping my toe into the world of focaccia. It has become trendy lately to make unique flavored focaccia bread and I am HERE FOR IT!
This savory focaccia bread can be made using my focaccia dough or any focaccia dough recipe you love. I love making this bread as an alternative to things like pizza bagels, pizza pockets or even sandwiches for lunch! You can make it more satiating by adding pepperoni or chicken and you have a perfect, nourishing meal that everyone will love.
Sourdough Pizza Focaccia Ingredients
Flour- Use whichever type of flour you typically use to make sourdough. Unbleached All Purpose or Bread flour would be my recommendation.
Sourdough Starter- I like to use active starter for this Focaccia for that perfectly soft airy texture.
Salt- An essential part of any sourdough recipe.
Olive oil- A good organic olive oil is always my first choice but you could sub with avocado oil if you prefer.
Tomato Sauce- You can use homemade or store bought. I use my homemade roasted tomato basil sauce which adds such great flavour.
Cheese- This recipe uses a blend of fresh mozzarella and cheddar. My idea of the perfect pizza blend.
Basil- This is optional but I believe fresh basil makes all pizza better!

The steps
1.Start by mixing together the water, and sourdough starter in a large bowl. Then add in the 2 tbsp olive oil, flour and salt. Stir with wooden spoon or dough whisk until no dry flour remains and you have a shaggy dough.
2. Cover the bowl with a tea towel and let rest for 30 minutes. Then perform one set of coil folds or stretch and folds. Cover the bowl and let sit another 30 minutes. Repeat this step 3 more times.
3.Let the dough rise covered on the counter for approx 6 hours or until doubled in size. Then cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place in the fridge overnight or 8-10 hours.
4.Remove the dough from the fridge and flip the dough out onto the counter. Divide it in half and place each piece of dough on a rimed baking sheet lined with parchment and a generous drizzle of olive oil.
5.Cover each pan of dough and let rest for 2 more hours.
6. Preheat your oven to 425F when you are ready to bake. Drizzle more olive oil on top of the dough then begin to dimple the bread with your fingers.
7.Spread 1 cup of tomato basil sauce on top of each loaf and top with the grated cheese. Bake uncovered for 30 minutes or until the cheese is golden and the bread is cooked through. Sprinkle the fresh basil on top and bake for a couple more minutes.
8. Remove from the oven and allow to cook for 20 minutes before slicing!

I absolutely love your focaccia recipe!! I found it last week and made it twice (a sweet and a savory version). I can’t wait to try this recipe! Thank you!
So glad you love it! I can never decide if I like the sweet or savory focaccia better!
This is the best sourdough pizza recipe I’ve tried so far. My husband liked it so much, he said it’s the best sourdough he’s had, period! We added tomato slices to top one pizza and then halved the other with bbq chicken / veggies and pepperoni. All were so good! We will definitely be making this again.
This is the best sourdough pizza recipe I’ve used to date! My husband agreed, but actually said it was the best sourdough he’s had, period! We added sliced tomato’s to one pizza and did half bbq chicken and half pepper, onion, pepperoni to the other one. The recipe is definitely a keeper!
