I absolutely love a quick and healthy dinner that tastes great too. We are all busy and want to put nourishing food on the table, so these Venison Lettuce Wraps are perfect! They make great leftovers for lunch or dinner too.

To make these lettuce wraps, you start by browning up some ground venison, with onion, garlic and vegetables. Then you add in a few flavor enhancers like soy sauce, fresh ginger and water chestnuts. Spoon that filling into crisp iceberg lettuce, then serve it all topped with a hoisin sauce, salty peanuts and green onions. They could not be any easier to make!

While they are absolutely delicious as they are, you can customize them in different ways to you or your families liking. If you want to make them more filling? Add some cooked white rice to the filling. If you want to keep them nut free? Use some crunchy chow mean noodles on top instead of peanuts. Additionally, these lettuce wraps can be made with any ground red meat you have, so grab whatever is in your freezer and get cooking!

Tips for Making Perfect Venison Lettuce Wraps

  1. Like I always recommend with ground game meat, to get the best flavor and texture, add anywhere from 10-20% pork of beef fat when you grind it. This keeps it nice and juicy as it cooks and can gut back some of the gamey flavor if you don’t love it!
  2. Once you have cooked the meat and vegetables and have added the spices and sauces, taste the mixture. If you want it a bit more salty, add more soy sauce. Like some extra ginger? Add more.
  3. When serving the lettuce wraps I recommend doubling up the layers of lettuce to prevent them from falling apart. This makes them much easier and cleanup to eat and adds a nice fresh crunch.

Venison Lettuce Wrap Ingredients

Ground Venison– As mentioned above, you can use ground venison, moose, elk or even beef.

Onion– White or yellow onion is great.

Garlic– Use fresh garlic for the most flavor.

Carrot– Chop these nice and small to mimic the size of the ground meat pieces.

Bell Pepper– Any color bell pepper works. I like red for the sweetness and the color.

Ginger- Fresh minced ginger adds a nice extra bit of flavor. I freeze my ginger so it is really easy to grate into recipes.

Soy Sauce– If you are gluten free, use a tamari.

Sesame Oil– I like to use this in place of olive oil or tallow for this recipe to add an extra little bit of asian flavor.

Hoisin Sauce– This adds a nice tough of sweetness to the filling and also acts as a sauce for on top. Use whichever brand is your cavort.

Water Chestnuts– You can find these at most grocery stores in the ethnic aisles. They come in a can, and add such delicious flavor and crunch!

Peanuts– I like to use salted peanuts. If you don’t like peanuts, you can use crispy chow main noodles instead or as well.

Green Onion– A fresh addition in the filling as well as for garnish.
