These bowls start with rice , then are loaded with any roasted vegetables of your choosing. A thick and creamy rosemary garlic whipped feta goes on top. Then you finish it off with juicy seared steak and a drizzle of hot honey! A simple and nourishing meal that doesn’t skimp on flavour!

Of course there are many cuts of steak out there and whether you make this recipe with wild game meat or beef, you can use almost any cut of steak you like. Tips for Making Whipped Feta And Hot Honey Steak Bowls

  1. Bring the steak to room temperature before cooking it. Typically pulling the steak from the refrigerator about 15-20 minutes before cooking is good enough. This ensure that the steaks will cook evenly through to get that perfect sear.
  2. Use a strong food processor or blender for the whipped feta. It is a thick mixture, and you want a strong blender that will be able to blend the feta cheese until it is nice and smooth.
  3. Always allow your steak to rest for at least 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving. This helps keep all of the juices in the steak and prevents it from becoming tough or dry.

Whipped Feta and Hot Honey Steak Bowl Ingredients

Steak– As mentioned above you can use any cut you like and from any red meat source. Venison, elk, moose or beef will all be delicious

Feta Cheese– This adds the perfect saltiness to these bowls to combat the sweetness from the hot honey.

Cream Cheese– Adding cream cheese to the whipped feta helps give you that perfectly smooth and creamy texture for these bowls.

Garlic– The whipped feta is full of fresh garlic. Do not use pre minced garlic.

Rosemary- Fresh rosemary is added to the whipped feta, and is also used while cooking the steaks for some extra flavour in the meat.

Olive Oil– You need a little bit of olive oil to loosen up the whipped feta and make it nice and spreadable.

Hot Honey– Any hot honey that you enjoy will work!

Rice– Jasmine or basmati rice make the perfect base for these bowls.

Roasted Vegetables– This can be almost any vegetables you like. My favourites in this bowl are sweet potatoes, carrots, Brussel sprouts and/or broccoli.

The Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 425F.
  2. Start by cooking the rice however you like to cook rice.
  3. Then toss all of the chopped vegetables with a couple tbsp of olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Lay on a baking sheet and roast for 20-30 minutes or until golden.
  4. Next, add all of the whipped feta ingredients to a food processor, blender or a large jar with an immersion blender. Blend until the mixture is completely smooth, then set aside.
  5. Then you are moving onto the steaks. Season them generously on all sides with salt and pepper.
  6. Heat a cast iron skillet on high heat, with a couple tbsp of butter or ghee.
  7. Once the butter is melted and the pan is nice and hot, add in the steak and the sprig of rosemary. Sear the steak for 5-6 minutes per side (depending on the thickness).
  8. Remove the steak from the pan when the internal temperature reaches 120F (for rare) or 130F (for medium rare). Allow the steaks to rest for 5-7 minutes before slicing thin.
  9. Finally, add a large spoonful of rice to each bowl, add in some of the roasted vegetables, top with a generous spoonful of the whipped feta, the sliced steak and finish with a drizzle of hot honey over the entire bowl. Enjoy!
